So you’re here for a balloon ride? Great! Hot Air Ballooning is an adventure all on its own. As much as we are sure you have heard the saying that “it will change your life” we are here to tell you this statement is wrong. It will MAKE your life. Let’s be clear. This is the most awe inspiring and beautiful activity known to man, and the fact that you are doing it here in Michigan is a testament to your incredible judge of scenery. So, without further a do… we would like to let you know why your choice to come here for your aerial adventure was the best decision of your life.
When traveling over the stunning state of Michigan there is nearly no place that you cannot go in a hot air balloon. So long as it is clear and safe to land in, and the wind wants to blow in that direction, you can float there! So it would be safe to say that our pilots have seen their fair share of the Great Lakes State. With the knowledge of even unseen territory, come the responsibility to their fellow man to share in what they have experienced. Here are our favorite places throughout the state. Once you land be sure to check these and many more places out!
Mackinac Island: While travelling by balloon is our top favorite thing to do..we do appreciate the little things in life. This is why this tiny island is one of our favorite places to go here in Michigan. With an automobile ban in place that forces you to enjoy the great outdoors and breathe the fresh air, the simple and elegant feel of the shoppes and atmosphere this is our favorite place to spend a weekend at one of their many b&bs.
American Museum of Magic: Did you know, Colon is home to the world's largest manufacturer of magic supplies? Who doesn’t like the magic tricks and wonderment that is brought on with each and every feat by a magician? Now, you can learn their secrets and discover where the magic began. We swear, this is a must see especially if you have children.
Hell, Michigan: Once coming to this state we were surprised to hear of Hell. It actually happened in the most funny way possible following directions from a local friend who basically told us to “go to hell”. But, ever since that conversation we have loved to visit the area, especially during the winter when “Hell freezes over”
The Paulding Light: Few know of Paulding Michigan, but those that do know or have heard of the strange lights that dance across the sky there. The lights can be seen best during clear nights and appear as spheres of light.. So far no one has come up with an explanation of these mysterious lights.
The Sanilac Petroglyphs: It was a huge forest fire in 1881 that cleared the way for our fellow Michigan locals to see these ancient rock carvings. They had been hidden in the dense forest area that once made up a large portion of Sanilac County. These glyphs are amazing to see and you do need to call in advance to see them, but with weather related wear they are fading, we recommend taking the opportunity to see these incredibly historic petroglyphs before they fade entirely.
Petoskey State Park: Did you know forty of the state's 83 counties adjoin at least one of the Great Lakes? Michigan is the only state that touches four of the five Great Lakes. The state stone of Michigan is the Petoskey Stone, for those readers out there who are just visiting our area for your balloon ride, do a search on it to see how cool it looks. These stones are incredibly rare as they are fossils from Michigan’s prehistoric past. For locals and guests, a day spent at the beach off Lake Michigan at Petoskey State Park searching for these stones is time well spent and we always suggest our friends and family, visit there for a keepsake that truly represents our great state.
As you can see by our favorites above, Michigan is far from mediocre and while the sights from the balloon will amaze and astonish you, we also strongly recommend you take a look at these spots on the ground as well!
Very few things are as beautiful as a brightly colored hot air balloon sailing silently across the Michigan sky. The colorful splash across blue skies inspires wistful awe. The only joy greater than the sight is the flight itself; made from high above the Great Lakes State!
